Research Group Post : Record Label Name

Greta, Ryan and I have looked into some brand names that would be suitable for us to use, and we thought of  a few names, however, all of them seemed to be taken. After some time, the name 'Reckless Records' popped into our heads and we have looked into it hoping that it wasn't taken, and to our joy it was not, as it was only a music shop that sells vinyls that uses that name.We believe that this name represents us as a team really well, and it will suit the genre of the music/artist that we will pick in the future. Now all that is left to do is to create a logo and our brand seal will be complete.

Research : Mood Board 2 - Clothing

These bands/artists all wear quite alternative clothing, this is a typical convention for indie. Their outfits all create a brand identity and a star image, this is what they are therefore recognized by. We will have to take into consideration the costumes when creating our star and their image, as we need to adhere to this convention due to this being a substantial aspect of the music video. We already have a few outfits in mind that are quite similar to these.

Research : Mood Board 1 - Hair Styles

Creating this mood board on hair styles in Indie music videos will aid us in the planning process as we can find an actor who has similar hair to these. I found that the hair styles tend to be quite natural and long so we will have to take this into consideration whilst picking out star.

Research : Digipak 1

Powered by emaze

How has this research influenced my creativity and my planning

  • I could use connotations to signify
  • I could use the same font on front and back
  • Use graphics on the cd which links to the song
  • Think carefully how mise-en-scene can represent my genre
  • Take into consideration the representation of the colours

Research : Possible Location Shots

These are possible locations that we are considering to use in our music video. Many of these images are taken locally which is therefore easier for us to travel. By using these locations we can film a few scenes for our music video. These adhere to conventions of indie as they are all low budget and easily accessible. Furthermore, the locations are simple because the audiences attention is usually focused on the band/artist.

Research : Establishing Shots for Indie

The Kooks - Always Where I Need To Be

The opening shot uses pull focus as the background is in focus to show the urban setting. The foreground looks to be a silhouette due to the dull/dark lighting, by this we can see the figure holding a guitar. There is clear depth of field between the building and the guitar, due to the focus, as well as the amount of detail.
Arcade Fire - Everything Now

A worms eye view is used to show the sky in the evening as this appears quite dreamy and calming. This may reflect the style of the music video.

Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger

This establishing shot uses pull focus to attract the audiences attention to the white chair. There is framing through a rail which acts as if someone is looking in on the chair. In addition, a long shot is used to support this. The white chair is in center frame because this is the main object in the shot. The connotation of white is innocence and purity, which links to the chair as this is a child's chair and these connotation are usually associated with them.

The 1975 - The Sound

A performance shot is used for the establishing shot which may suggest that this is a performance based music video. The black silhouette of the band works well with the pink lights in the background. Furthermore, the lights are pink because the bands brand identity is pink therefore the audience instantly knows who is performing.

Catfish and the Bottlemen - Soundcheck

A low angle shot is used to show that the band have power and status. This shot is in black and white which suggests that the whole music video will be like this, this adheres to indie conventions. This shot is  performance as the band are seen with instruments, this therefore suggests the music video is heavily performance based.

Florence & the Machine - Shake it Out

An extreme close up of Florence Welch is used as an establishing shot. This shot could suggest that the video is performance, as we know she is the lead singer of the band.

Planning Group Post : Chosen Song (Arctic Monkeys - Old Yellow Bricks)

We have chosen this song to create a music video to as we all like the genre it is from as well as the band. Furthermore, we decided on this song as we didn't want to do a cliché love song.

Old yellow bricks
Love's a risk
Quite the little 'escapologist'
Looked so miffed
When you wished
For a thousand places better than this

You are the fugitive
But you don't know what you're runnin' from
You can't kid us
And you couldn't trick anyone
Houdini, love you don't know what you're runnin' away from

Who wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up?
Blinded by nostalgia
Who wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up?

She was enraged but the way
That the emperor put traps in the cage
And the days she been dull
Lead to nights readin' beer bottles

You're such a fugitive
But you don't know what you're runnin' from
You can't kid us
And you couldn't trick anyone
Houdini, love you don't know what you're runnin' away from

Who wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up?
Blinded by nostalgia
Who wants to sleep in a city that never wakes up?

You're at a loss
Just because
It wasn't all that you thought it was

You are a fugitive, but you don't know what you're runnin' away from

She said, "I want to sleep in the city that never wakes up
And revel in nostalgia."
I know I said he wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up, but
Dorothy was right though
