Preferred encoding reading achieved: 13 Yes

Negotiated reading:

1: The smart clothes contradict the genre of the video

Action: If we had more time to do this music video, challenging this convention would still be in our mind, as we want to portray the youth as people who can dress stereo-typically, and not at the same time.

Q3: Do you think that the cards and the bottles represent something negative in the music video e.g: the social issue that the youths face which should be addressed?

Preferred encoding reading achieved:  13 Yes

Blueprint Film Foundation Workshop

Today we were lucky to have a man named Dave from Blueprint Film Foundation do a workshop with us. He introduced us to advanced editing techniques, for example the luma key, the sharpening effect and many more skills.

Each group had an hours session with Dave where he would go through our music videos and tell us which parts need improving. In the workshop Dave assisted us with our difficulties in the editing process of the music video. He demonstrated how to make one specific colour stand out, this was significantly important as we wanted to represent certain meanings and with his help we could do so. The 'Old Yellow Bricks' opening shot was the shot that needed brightening as the yellow was quite dull and not very distinctive, however using Adobe Elements 11 we were able to go over the top of the writing using yellow, but with a higher opacity so that it was more dominant. Another shot that Dave said we could improve was the skateboarding one, these shots were too long, so we therefore added effects to them to distract the audiences attention from the length. Dave also said we could use black and whites shots more, however only to make certain shots stand out.

By having this workshop this helped us to build our knowledge as well as skills with editing. Furthermore, we could know use these skills and apply them to our music video.

Advert Analysis from RheanonGreenASMedia

How has this research influenced my planning and creativity

  • Largest piece of information always contrasts with the background.
  • The whole adverts are quite minimal with the information more important than the image.
  • Digipak and advert photograph are similar or the same.
  • Their names are always the same font for each digipak as this creates a brand identity.
  • Features websites for fans to look on.
  • Text is usually centre aligned as this is in your eye line.
  • Reviews grabs audience's attention as these are prestigious magazines.

Planning Group Post : Evaluating the Film Shoot

When we filmed in the abandoned building location, I feel that these are the things that went well:

  • Because of the good weather, we were able to film exterior shots
  • Because of the wind, in the exterior shots we have Emily's hair blowing in the wind
  • Good natural lighting was in the interior shots, providing soft light through the windows

However, these are a few things that we found difficult:

  • Because both of our stars are not too fond of heights, it was difficult to get them onto the introduction shot on the rooftop, and the final verse was recorded at reasonable heights as well, making the stars a little anxious. However, this was fixed as we all sang the verse together to reassure the singer.
  • The opening shot which included the female star spray painting onto a wall was quite difficult, as the wind was getting out of control, and the paint was very difficult to apply. We resolved this by waiting out the wind and painting from a closer range.
  • The shot with The Dorothy shoes was quite difficult to shoot as the shoes were a little too big for the actress, therefore she found it quite difficult to get her heels to touch.
  • In the actual location, the ground floor was very dark and difficult to maneuver in, therefore it took is some time to find our way around into the lighter parts of the building.
  • Because we could not find an empty brick wall in the building, we had to settle for shooting only one of the opening sequence in the location.

Planning : Thank you

I made the actors of our music video cupcakes as a thank you for helping us with our media project. We are very appreciative for their help as they could have declined our deal.

Planning : Change Of Filming Day

We had a problem with the filming days as there was a lack of communication between the actors, this therefore caused us a problem as we had to change the day of filming. We originally planned to film on the 26th October 11:00 to 16:00, however we are now filming on the 24th October at 10:00 to 15:00 due to other commitments by the actors. As this has changed we will now have to alter the call sheet in order to be correct.
